Sunday September 19 the 16th Liberation Concert was held on the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten. Besides the visitors present a livestream was available on the ABMC facebook channel which attracted tenthousands of viewers from all over the world.
The philharmonie zuidnederland played their first concert at 12.00h and the second concert at 15.00h under the lead of conductor Sander Teepen and with soprano Hannah Morrison. Four impressive pieces were played which told the story of hommage to the fallen liberators. The concert opened with Funeral Music by Henry Purcell followed by ‘For the unknown Soldier’ by Dirk Brossé, Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and Militaire Symfonie by Joseph Haydn.
The Liberation Concert also had the honor of a world premier with the specially for the Cemetery written piece ‘Unknown Territory’ by Mark Pütz.
Before the start of the concert ABMC superintendent Jason Bordelon, Chargé d’Affairs Marja Verloop and regional minister Madeleine van Toorenburg welcomed the guests and spoke of the importance of remembrance, cherishing freedom and the bond between Limburg and the United States.
The organizing foundation of the Liberation concert is very pleased with this years edition and would like to thank philharmonie zuidnederland for a great performance and cooperation towards September 19. The organisation looks with lots of energy already ahead towards the 17th Liberation Concert in 2022.
